Test Results and Laboratory Specimens

As a general rule, we do ask patients to call us back for results.

Most results will take at least 3 to 7 working days and many will take longer. All test results are reviewed by a doctor, and if any action is required we will contact you.

If you have been asked to call back for results, please call reception during the afternoon, at least one week after your test.

General Information about Test Results

Please remember that the staff can only act in accordance with the Doctor's instructions so may not be able to give you a result. This does not necessarily mean that there is a problem but simply that the Doctor needs to see you or talk to you to explain the whole situation.

Results can be given to someone other than the patient if previously arranged with Doctor. Unless otherwise arranged, we ask that the patient whose test it is contacts the practice for the results.

The results of test will be sent to the 'requesting' doctor.

The results of tests carried out during hospital visits are not normally sent to the practice.

Confidentiality

Results for patients over 16 years old can only be given to the patient.

Specimens should be handed in as early in the day as possible. Please ensure your name and date of birth are on the container.
